Maharaja’s Express is a luxury train that takes you on a trip to certain destinations in a well-equipped and furnished train where you can enjoy a series of facilities and services. The train has a lavish decor and several features. The passengers would be escorted into the train and the train travels to a new destination every day. By daybreak, the passengers get down from the train and take up any other land transportation like bus or car and visit a series of tourist attractions before boarding the train again for night travel and amusements.

About the train

There are four types of cabins in this train namely; deluxe cabin, junior suite, suite and presidential suite. The presidential suite is the most luxurious one and there is only one such suite with takes up a whole coach. Other than the presidential suite, the other suites take up half of a coach. There are various facilities like electronic safe, twin bed or double bed, personal butlers, upholsteries, fully equipped bathrooms with showers or tub, internet, TV and others. There are two restaurants, one bar, a lounge room with panoramic window and board games, library, souvenir shop, spa and many other amenities inside the train. Name an amenity and you would be able to find it in Maharaja’s Express.

Journey

There are five types of journey itineraries in Maharaja’s Express.

  1. Gems of India tour takes you on a tour for four days and three nights. The tour starts in Delhi and then takes you to a series of destinations like Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur and back to Delhi on the fourth day.
  2. Treasures of India tour takes you on a tour for four days and three nights. The tour as usual starts in Delhi and you will visit Agra, Jaipur, Ranthambore, and back to Delhi on fourth day.
  3. Indian Panorama tour extends for eight days. The list of destinations reached are Delhi, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Agra, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Lucknow and back to Delhi.
  4. India Splendour tour goes for eight days. The tour starts in Delhi and takes you to Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur,and  Balasinor and the tour ends at Mumbai.
  5. Heritage of India tour is for eight days. It starts in Mumbai and takes you to various destinations including Ajantha, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra and ends in Delhi.

Booking details

Maharaja’s Express train booking can be done through the official site of the train or through any travel agent. A child below the age of two will not be charged additionally. A child less than 12 years of age would be charged half of the price.

The steps for booking are as follows:

a)  Visit the train’s official site and you would find the booking form along with terms and conditions, user agreement, inclusions and exclusions.

b)  Download the form with terms and conditions. The terms and conditions should be filled and sent to IRCTC. Even if the form is not sent, it is understood that the client has read the terms and conditions and agrees with every point.

c)   Fill out the booking form and once you have the completed, email or fax the form to IRCTC. The contact details will be provided in Appendix 7.

d)  Payment can be done in parts or as a whole before 60 days from the departure date. If balance is not paid, the ticket will be considered cancelled and no payment would be refunded. If payment is made after 60 days prior to the departure date, a small fine would be added to your ticket cost. After the complete payment is done, you would receive a confirmation form that you need to carry with you throughout the tour.

e)  Any cancellation before less than 45 days from departure date will have no refund. If cancellation is done before two months from the departure date, 25% of the cost would be retained by the company. If canceled between 59 and 45 days, 50% of the charge would be retained.

The ticket cost includes the bed, bathroom facilities, meals, beverages, house brand liquor, butler service, entrance fee for sightseeing, guide charge, coffee, water, and porter service.
