Security forces shoot dead Pakistani infiltrator

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers in the early hours of Wednesday along the Pathankot border in Punjab . The incident has once again brought security issues to the fore along the Indo-Pak border. BSF personnel noticed suspicious movements near the Tashpatan border outpost along the International Border (IB). When the intruder tried to cross the border, the BSF troops tried to stop him. However, he continued to move forward without stopping, and the BSF shot him dead.

The process of identifying the intruder
is ongoing. Is he a member of any terrorist organization or is he a common intruder? Investigation is underway.

BSF officials' statement:
A BSF spokesperson from Jammu border said
that they will lodge a strong protest with the Pakistani Rangers over this incident.
They made it clear that such intrusions along the India-Pakistan border will not be tolerated.

India-Pakistan Border Security
The BSF manages the 553-km-long India-Pakistan International Border (IB) in Punjab. The BSF's main responsibility is to prevent terrorism, drug smuggling, and illegal infiltration.
In recent times, drone infiltration and illegal arms smuggling have increased along the Punjab border, and hence security has been tightened.

India protests Pakistan Rangers
The Indian government and the BSF will formally protest the incident to the Pakistan Rangers.
There have been previous incidents of terrorists trying to infiltrate into India through Pakistan. Indian security forces will continue to suppress such attempts with an iron fist. The BSF has prevented infiltrations on the Punjab-Pakistan border in the past as well.

Security measures
are likely to be tightened after this incident.
Surveillance on the movements of terrorist organizations will be strengthened.
